An editor from the sleep side of Yahoo! Health reached out to see whether I was available to write reviews based on tester feedback. It’s straightforward work — turning a jumble of notes on mattress features into insightful articles designed to help people decide whether a particular bed meets their needs.

The Process

Yahoo! works with a range of testers, and some do a better job of sharing their thoughts than others. It means the real challenge is interpreting their feedback and making it genuinely useful. It’s also a chance to flex my well of knowledge about mattresses — something I’ve picked up after years and years of researching and writing about all things sleep. For these reviews, I pair tester notes with my own mattress know-how. The finished articles are a deep dive into details like firmness, support, motion isolation, cooling ability, and all the other things that should be considered when you’re spending thousands on a mattress sight-unseen.
